I am really enjoying my iTeam this session. As we study through the Purpose Driven Life, we are talking about so many different topics in our lives. It's amazing how many life components ultimately make up our purpose in life - whether we are fulfilling that purpose or not.
Something that came up recently in our team was around our true PURPOSE in life - worshipping God and Loving/Serving others. Worshipping God is so much more than what we make it... but our lives "force" it into a few minutes on the weekends - if we even go to church. We discussed how our lives can worship God wherever and whenever we can - at work, in our families, in our service, at church.
Also - it was evident that our purpose in serving and loving others gets barricaded by our own anger and frustration with other people b/c of our own filters and life views. We tend NOT to love others, especially non-Christ-Followers, when they do something that we deem evil, wrong, unpure, non-church-like, whatever. We put on the mask of self-righteousness and don't even know it. We judge out of a "seemingly christ heart" mentality - but miss the true Christ in our actions. It is so easy to miss it. It's so easy to justify our negative feelings towards others.
When did Christ get angry and/or show that anger? Towards self-righteous and abusive church people... NEVER towards prostitutes, money launderers, depressed and deprived, you name it. NEVER. But we do. We don't get angry at our own self-righteousness, but rather at other people's issues. We have a lot to learn about Purpose, don't we?
Election time
I know, the thought of the election makes EVERYONE cringe, but that's seriously my point. So many angry people around both sides of the election, casting hate back and forth at each other. One neighbor put a McCain sign out in his yard, and another neighbor called him a "F-ing Republican". Same goes for Republicans I see all over the internet talking about how evil Obama is and how much we should hate him and what he stands for. I see so much hate being slung back and forth, and find myself getting angry with the hatemongers and the slanderers, and then I realize, am I any better than they are when I'm getting angry and hating them and what they're saying?
You're dead right, Scott, we ALL need to learn to love a little more. I hope we can all get back to that once these elections are over (maybe even DURING these elections!), because no matter who wins, we all have to live together, and we're called ULTIMATELY to love each other and let God take care of the rest.
