Voting for John McCain will not change the world. Neither will voting for Barack Obama. A congress that is controlled by one political party or another isn't going to make a difference. Voting 'yes' or 'no' to issue X or Y will not change the fate of the world. What does make a difference, and what does matter, is that you are choosing to accept the fact and the responsibility that you positively or negatively impact the world everyday. Yes, voting is important, and it is a process that all American citizens of voting age should be involved in. However, you cannot pawn off the responsibility and burden that you have been uniquely designed for by voting for one issue, party, or candidate over the other.
The responsibility to make a positive contribution in this world is all your own. At the end of the day, you cannot blame political figures for the troubles that you see. The responsibility to positively change the world is one that each of us has, not just on election day, but everyday that we are alive. It is not accidental that you cry and lose hours of sleep when you hear a story about people who are dying of starvation somewhere in the world. It is not coincidental that you worry that there are animals that are being mistreated or abused in your community, or if the forests are being destroyed, or even if it is something as seemingly small as families eating at the kitchen table, rather than in front of the television.
The point that I am making is that we have all been created with a burden. It is not by accident that you are concerned about certain things more than other people might be. It is not by mere happenstance that you become passionate, engaged, and lose track of time when you are serving others through the use of your gifts and talents. Believe it or not, accept it or not, the fact is, you have been made for this stuff! If you see a need, and you feel pain for a cause, then get involved, get engaged, and put your abilities and passions to work for the cause you have been crafted for. Become a part of the solution and take responsibility. The world will be changed for the better, and will thank you for it.
